At Dataquest, we teach data science to a community of hundreds of thousands of students from all across the world. Our students learn by analyzing real data, and eventually build projects on topics ranging from predicting the stock market to finding the best NBA players. We’re looking for someone who can help us increase our impact by engaging students more as they learn data science on our platform. We have tens of thousands of students sign up for Dataquest every month, but we don’t manage to help all of our students stay on track and meet their goals.

In order to help our students meet their goals, you’ll create several student personas, then create personalized messaging for each persona. This messaging will be delivered via in-app popups and emails. Personalized messaging will engage students from when they sign up for the site until they convert to subscribers, and beyond that until they cancel their subscriptions. Many students feel like they can’t learn specific concepts, and personalized, encouraging, messaging can make a huge impact on student’s lives.

The messages you create will help us increase the number of signups who become subscribers, and help us reduce the number of students who give up on learning and cancel their subscriptions. We're looking for someone who's data-driven, passionate about education, and able to understand the motivations of our students.

  • Devise KPIs and goals for our messages
  • Boost the performance of our messaging campaigns
  • Craft student marketing personas based on data and market understanding
  • Tailor messaging to each persona
  • Deliver an engaging messaging experience for our students
  • Create compelling messages to be used across a variety of platforms, such as in-app messages and emails
  • Analyze and consider trends in the data science market in order to best position our brand and products
  • Evaluate performance using feedback from students as well as relevant KPIs
  • Become well acquainted with what we teach and how we teach it
  • Give feedback to the content team to produce higher-converting content


  • Ability to iterate on message copy using data
  • Empathy for the student experience.
  • Ability to think holistically about messaging sequences
  • BSc/BA in similar or related field such as English, Communications, Psychology; proven prior experience as a Brand or Product Marketer, or similar position.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools like Google Analytics
  • Familiarity with messaging tools like Intercom
  • Experience working with data to drive marketing decisions
  • Proven experience with writing clear and direct marketing copy
  • Experience focusing on revenue and performance metrics
